TOP PROSPECT ALERT: DAVION RHYMES Class of 2028 prospect makes himself known on the regional/national level.

In the final but most important month for grassroots/travel/aau basketball, teams and players, across the country want to put on their best performances and the same can be said for class of 2028, 6’4 (G) Davion Rhymes out of Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix). Through ought the month of July, Davion is showing why he’s worthy of being mentioned as a legitimate national top prospects in his class.

COMING OUT OF NOWHERE While most locals were familiar with Davion the rest of the region or country have been somewhat unaware of who Davion is until now. In the last 3 weeks Davion has really been on a tare. Week one, at the what is considered by many as the top high school team tourney “Section 7” where Davion got things started by having several big games and garnering the attention of several top scouts and scouting services who were in attendance.

In week two at the Las Vegas Davion put up 28 points, in game one, in game two, Davion posted a 40 piece and in game three, Davion topped his previous big time performance of 40 points by scoring 42 points. Game four Davion posted 28 points and in game five, Davion scored a modest 26 points in his final game of the tourney.

For week 3 at the Las Vegas “Big Time” tourney, Davion had another high level week averaging 25points 6 rebs and 3 assists per game to finish out the summer.

PLAYER EVAL Davion is a silky smooth but also rugged guard who has a complete offensive game and a deep bag of moves and countermoves which makes him a very tough cover for any and all defenders. Davion has an exceptional handle and constantly puts it on display whenever he has the ball in his hands.

While Davion’s physique is thin and wirery but it’s a set up because when Davion makes a couple shots in a row on his defender, the defender immediately takes the stance of to then playing him physical and tight and that’s when the trap is set. Davion then begins to play what seems to be a form of “musical chairs” as he begins to display a series of quick "stop n goes" mixed with a hessy or two which seems to always put defenders in a place of uncertainty as Davion proceeds to pick them a part with either a high level drive to the basket or a hard but smooth "stop n go" then a quick pull up (3 pointer or mid range).

Davion has great vision and court awareness, he always has his head up on the fast break advancing the ball Davion is a “tough shot maker” and seems to thrive when defenders plays him tough and physical. As you can see in the above, Davion makes shot after shot all while defenders are riding him as he frequently drives to the basket and finishes.

CONCLUSION Just looking at the month of July that Davion has had, there’s no doubt that Davion is a top prospect in the class of 2028. Davion has shown that not only can he have good performances with good numbers, Davion put up great numbers and great performances against high level talent over an extended period of time. I will most definitely keep you all posted on the progress of this top prospect. Stay tuned, there’s more to come.
